Getting your test results
Most blood test results are available after 2 – 3 days of the after the sample being taken but more specialised tests may take longer.
Investigation done at the hospital organised by the surgery e.g. a gastroscopy may take between 1-2 weeks. If these or other types of investigations are organised by a consultant at the hospital it may even take longer to be received.
You can ring the surgery from 10:00am for test results. However, if the doctor wishes to see you or offer you further treatment you may be contacted and asked to make an appointment or to collect a prescription.
Due to confidentiality results can only be given to the patient themselves or to a parent/guardian of children aged under 16. Please be aware that due to the open plan of the reception desk/waiting area that obtaining certain test results in person may inappropriate.

PLEASE NOTE: Most hospital doctors arranging blood tests will write directly to you with the results and this usually takes 3-6 weeks. We receive results roughly the same time as you do. You can also contact your hospital doctor’s secretary directly.
